Grassrivers is one of the major natural regions confirmed for GTA 6’s state of Leonida.
The area is dominated by water rather than traditional roads. Tall grass, swamp trees, mangroves and vegetation surround narrow channels that appear suitable for airboats and small watercraft.
Official footage presents GTA 6 Grassrivers as beautiful but dangerous. Warm sunlight, open skies, and large groups of birds create impressive scenery, while alligators and other potential threats make the water unpredictable.
The region may function as Leonida’s main wilderness area in the same way that Blaine County and the mountains provided open countryside outside Los Santos in GTA 5. Grassrivers, however, has a much stronger focus on water, mud and wetland navigation.

Is Grassrivers Based on the Florida Everglades?

Grassrivers is clearly inspired by Florida’s Everglades and other wetland environments found across South Florida.
The similarities include shallow water, large grass-covered areas, mangroves, alligators, airboats and wide open landscapes with relatively few major buildings.
Rockstar is not expected to recreate the real Everglades exactly. The developer may combine inspiration from national parks, wildlife areas, isolated communities and tourist locations into one fictional region designed around GTA 6’s gameplay.
Roads, settlements and waterways can therefore be adjusted to create better travel routes and mission locations.
The name Grassrivers may also reflect the idea of a “river of grass,” a description commonly associated with the slow-moving wetland ecosystem of the Everglades.
How Big Is Grassrivers?
Rockstar Games hasn’t revealed the size of Grassrivers yet.
From what I can see from the screenshots and trailers, Grassrivers appears to be a very large natural area, rather than a small swamp. There are flooded fields and trees in the distance, there are many waterways, full of wildlife, and lots of structures to explore.
Fans made up some maps which try to determine the size of Grassrivers. They usually take a look at all the roads, the skyline, some landmarks etc. I have no idea if these maps are good representations of the game or not.
Traveling through Grassrivers at a slow pace through its waters could make the area feel extremely large compared to a long stretch of highway for example. You’ll follow around in circles with the rivers of Grassrivers and discover hidden channels, secret hideouts and even entire islands with secret structures and hideouts within the dense region of Grassrivers.
Exploring GTA 6 Grassrivers not only provides excitement but also showcases the beauty of nature. The tropical landscapes and intricate waterways create a captivating adventure for players.

Although Grassrivers does not occupy a huge area in total Grassrivers is extremely packed with many hidden water channels, many hidden islands, many hidden buildings, many hidden structures, many hidden paths and much more. As a result of the extremely packed space of Grassrivers even though Grassrivers does not occupy the largest physical area on the map of Los Santos it will offer up a huge amount of space for players to explore.
Airboats in GTA 6 Grassrivers

Airboats are one of the defining features of Grassrivers.
An airboat uses a large rear-mounted fan to move across shallow water where a conventional boat propeller could become trapped in plants, mud or submerged debris.
Official GTA 6 footage shows an airboat travelling through the wetlands, while another promotional image presents people riding in an airboat surrounded by alligators.
Players should prepare for diverse encounters in GTA 6 Grassrivers, ranging from environmental obstacles to engaging wildlife.

Can Players Drive Airboats?
Airboats have been featured in all of the official gameplay trailers. Therefore it is safe to assume that the Airboat will be a useable vehicle in the game.
There is no word from Rockstar regarding the controls for the Airboats, where they are stored, and any possible customizations.
You may find Airboats parked at Docks similar to those near Tourist Information and occasionally a secluded home. You can find them in the location of Missions as well throughout the Region.
It is to be expected that they handle a little different to a normal boat of that size (i.e. cross very shallow water, even possibly push through some type of dense type of vegetation), however – like all of the vehicles in the game – the airboats are FLAT and provide little to no protection in collisions or other aggressive type of driving.
Alligators in Grassrivers
Alligators are the most prominent animals shown in Grassrivers.
In GTA 6 Grassrivers, players can immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the environment, enhancing their gameplay experience.
Airboats in GTA 6 Grassrivers open up new avenues for adventure, allowing players to reach hidden corners of the wetlands.
Official imagery includes numerous alligators moving through dark water around an airboat. Other footage shows them living among birds and wetland vegetation.
The animals appear to be part of the environment rather than rare scripted appearances. Players travelling through the swamp may need to pay attention to water, shorelines and areas where visibility is limited.
Rockstar has not fully explained alligator behaviour. It is unknown how frequently they attack, whether they react differently to boats and people or how far they can move onto dry land.
Every player’s journey through GTA 6 Grassrivers will be unique, marked by their choices and paths taken.
Alligators may also appear outside Grassrivers. GTA 6’s first trailer showed one entering a public business, suggesting that wildlife can sometimes move into populated areas.
Will Alligators Attack Players?
I don’t think Rockstar have released a full Wildlife Behaviour Guide but official game screens do confirm that in the game Alligators can pose a threat to both boats and to populated areas.
Like they do in the wild, they will pose a threat to your boat and the area that you are populating.
We don’t know yet how these interactions will play out. But for now, we can look at some variables that could affect the behavior of an alligator: the distance to the animal, its movement, its location on the map and whether or not it’s threatened.
I don’t know how alligators behave in all situations so I won’t say all of them are aggressive. One would hope Rockstar is going a bit further than that and included a bit more variety in how the animals behave in certain situations. The final mechanics of wildlife are unknown.
Birds and Wetland Wildlife
Grassrivers contains more wildlife than alligators.
The GTA 6 trailers show large groups of birds standing in shallow water and flying above the wetlands. Their bright colours and large numbers help give the region a recognizable South Florida atmosphere.
Expect to see diverse wildlife as you explore GTA 6 Grassrivers, making every trip feel unique.
Different birds may appear in different areas depending on water depth, vegetation and time of day.
Rockstar has not released a complete Grassrivers wildlife list. Other animals associated with Florida wetlands may appear, but specific species should not be treated as confirmed until shown or announced officially.
Wildlife could affect exploration by creating sounds, movement and unexpected events away from cities. Animals may also help players identify areas containing water, food sources or nearby environmental activity.
Every trip through GTA 6 Grassrivers promises new experiences and discoveries, enhancing your adventure.
Mangroves and Swamp Vegetation
Mangroves and very dense wetland vegetation like in Grassrivers act as a natural barrier.
Unlike open ocean water, Grassrivers channels are generally narrow and can be difficult to follow because of roots, tall grass and trees in the way. Often the channels can be so narrow that following them on foot can be difficult and in the end follow a linear path to the end of the channel. Sometimes an alternative route may exist by following the water.
The alligators found in GTA 6 Grassrivers add an extra layer of thrill as players navigate through the wetlands.
In GTA 6 Grassrivers, players will find that the vastness of the wetlands invites exploration and adventure.
The dense root systems and trees of the Grassrivers also create a great area to hide and travel around in a vehicle to get to areas that you can’t walk to in other parts of Grassrivers.
Another aspect for Rockstar to implement is that two of these channels look exactly the same and players have to find their way through them. Shallower grounds with water, animals and even old ruins could be hidden in tall grass and make a hard trip for the player.
It has not been confirmed by Rockstar Games if any permanent damage can be done to Grass/ Trees in Swamps with Vehicles.
Water, Mud and Off-Road Driving
Off road Grassrivers – Grassrivers is not limited to boat travel. An official Rockstar Games Screenshots has been added to the gallery. The shot is of off road Grassrivers and shows selected trucks, SUVs etc driving through the shallow waters of the wetlands. A helicopter can be seen flying above.
As mentioned previously Grassrivers is not just a place for boat travel. Other forms of land travel can reach parts of Grassrivers. This includes trucks, SUVs and helicopters.
Different surfaces require different speeds, and there are four main surfaces that you will travel through in Grassrivers: mud, flooded grass, deep channels, and dry ground. A sports car would struggle badly in Grassrivers, lifted trucks and off-road SUVs are much better suited to the area.
For those seeking thrills, GTA 6 Grassrivers provides plenty of opportunities for action-packed adventures.
Most cars – including sports cars – would struggle in Grassrivers but a lifted truck or 4×4 will have no problem at all.
Your skills will be tested in GTA 6 Grassrivers, from navigating terrain to outsmarting wildlife.
We have yet to hear from Rockstar Games as to how deep into the mud a vehicle can get and how they can be recovered from there. Whether or not a vehicle is recoverable is yet to be seen.
The Grassrivers Swamp Pursuit
Here is another official Grassrivers image. This one showcases a large pursuit of cars racing through the wetlands of Grassrivers.
The image of a vehicle tearing down a flooded Grassrivers landscape with a helicopter flying low overhead suggests that Grassrivers will host a lot of the game’s action, as opposed to just being a reserve where Jason can roam around tracking animals.
Unlike the Police Chases in Vice City, the Pursuits in Grassrivers would be difficult to navigate through, due to the lack of straight roads and corners/intersections. Vice City style driving would not work in Grassrivers in order to complete your objectives in a Pursuit.
This, the waterways, grass, mud and wildlife of Grassrivers would no doubt pose an obstacle to the pursuers of the game.
The story behind this image is yet to be detailed by Rockstar but it could be an image of Jason trying to escape from the police, or crossing their path whilst he is on the trail of Lucia, local gangsters or even other rival groups.
In GTA 6 Grassrivers, the challenges are as rich as the environment, ensuring a vibrant gameplay experience.
Will Police Follow Players Into Grassrivers?
Below is a screenshot of the official pursuit screen where Police (or other) forces are able to travel through the wetlands in the game.
Helicopters are ideal for pursuing players in the wetlands because there are few roads and the wetlands are dense with trees and heavy underbrush which makes off-road police vehicles of little use on the ground.
The captivating environment of GTA 6 Grassrivers invites players to engage with its wildlife and natural beauty.
Off-road police cars are able to drive through the shallow water of the Grassrivers and chase you around.
So while a normal off-road police vehicle may not be able to follow a Grassrivers (shallow) channel or route for a long time, it will allow the player to run fast for a little while.
No information has been released regarding any difference in wanted level in the rural areas as opposed to the urban areas of the game.
Are There Roads in Grassrivers?
Looking at the screenshots from Grassrivers (which can be found in the available official screenshots), it appears Grassrivers is predominantly a wetland area with roads, some bridges, and possibly some developed areas in between.
Natural regions are usually bounded by roads that lead to surrounding towns and businesses. Within the natural region there can be a number of sites: a nature tourism attraction, homes, and service facilities. These would be shown on a larger Leonida map.
The official Leonida screenshots posted so far focus on Grassrivers as a wetland and we do not know about any roads there yet.
This floodplain is a wetland, some roads and tracks may be above the wetland, but at times become muddy dirt tracks or flooded.
Could Grassrivers Contain Small Communities?
Rockstar have yet to reveal an entire list of the Grassrivers’ towns and villages.
Given the size of Grassrivers there are no doubt dozens of Grassrivers towns, Grassrivers settlements, Grassrivers camps, Grassrivers hotels, Grassrivers lodges, Grassrivers inns, Grassrivers taverns, Grassrivers tourist establishments, Grassrivers ferries, Grassrivers docks, Grassrivers moorings, Grassrivers garages, Grassrivers filling stations, Grassrivers service stations, Grassrivers repair shops, Grassrivers
The people living in the mud and mire of the wetlands would probably have a vastly different culture to the cities Vice City, Port Gellhorn and Ambrosia, perhaps a tribe of boat-dwelling fisherman that service to the tourist trade in the area, or perhaps they are local experts of the Grassrivers region.
On the other hand the isolated communities could be your mission contacts and try to help you get through these areas the outsider tourist usually wouldn’t find.
The Grassrivers have been plotted onto unofficial maps by fans of the game. These include the names of many individual towns and settlements but have not been verified by Rockstar Games so should be used with extreme caution.
Could Grassrivers Have Airboat Tours?
I also spotted some Airboat tours floating around South Florida’s wetlands. This seems like a perfect activity to include in the upcoming GTA Online: Advanced Gaming Rigs expansion set in an open world based in the region created by Rockstar Games.
In tourist locations across South Florida there are businesses that offer Airboat tours, Wildlife tours and guided hiking treks into the swamp.
There are no airboat-tour activities in Rockstar Games’ South Florida setting.
An airboat business could be used as a piece of environmental detail or as a location for a mission or even as a side activity that the player can play through.
Fishing in Grassrivers
Rockstar has not confirmed a fishing system for GTA 6.
Grassrivers contains extensive water and wildlife, making fishing a reasonable possibility, but environmental suitability does not prove that a full fishing mechanic exists.
Fishing could appear as a small side activity, a scripted event or simply be performed by non-player characters around the region.
Until Rockstar demonstrates the mechanic, claims involving fish species, equipment or rewards remain speculation.
Prepare to discover the wild beauty of GTA 6 Grassrivers as you traverse its many layers.
Hunting and Wildlife Activities
A dedicated hunting system has not been officially confirmed for GTA 6.
Rockstar included hunting activities in GTA 5 and detailed wildlife systems in Red Dead Redemption 2, which explains why players expect something similar.
Grassrivers clearly contains wildlife, but GTA 6 may use animals mainly for environmental realism, unpredictable encounters and selected missions.
Players should wait for official gameplay information before treating hunting challenges or animal-based rewards as confirmed features.
Hidden Locations and Strange Discoveries
Grassrivers appears designed for exploration beyond the main roads.
Dense mangroves, narrow waterways and isolated patches of land can hide structures that are difficult to see from a distance.
Possible discoveries could include abandoned boats, cabins, camps or environmental storytelling locations. None of these specific examples has been formally confirmed for Grassrivers.
The region’s remoteness also makes it suitable for GTA’s unusual side characters and mysteries.
Cal Hampton’s interest in strange theories could potentially connect him with rumours about the wetlands, although Rockstar has not confirmed a Grassrivers mission involving Cal.
Grassrivers and Cal Hampton
As players navigate GTA 6 Grassrivers, they will encounter various species of wildlife, enhancing the immersive experience.
Cal Hampton is Jason Duval’s friend and a highly suspicious observer who follows internet theories and monitors Coast Guard communications.
His habits could make him interested in unusual events taking place around Grassrivers.
Cal may hear emergency traffic, track government activity or direct Jason toward something he believes is hidden in the wetlands.
This is a possible story connection rather than a confirmed mission.

Grassrivers and Jason Duval
Jason is living in the Leonida Keys, working around the various coastal criminals in the area, when he gets pulled into the GTA 6 story.
Exploring the diverse environments of GTA 6 Grassrivers will provide thrilling moments and unique gameplay mechanics.
The place where he worked (smuggling around coastal criminals) with the background of Brian Heder (the head of smuggling in Grassrivers) and his experience with boats and his knowledge of South Leonida means he would probably find traveling through the wetlands to Grassrivers easier than…
As an former associate to Brian Heder, Jason will have many contacts involved in smuggling and other forms of crime and could use these to travel to Grassrivers.
This is purely speculative and in no way confirmed by Rockstar Games – Jason simply traveling to Grassrivers as part of the wider GTA 6 storyline, and not a local Grassrivers resident.

Grassrivers and Lucia Caminos
Lucia’s official history is connected primarily to her family, Leonida Penitentiary and her plan to build a better future with Jason.
Rockstar has not revealed a personal connection between Lucia and Grassrivers.
The wetlands could still become important after Jason and Lucia are pulled into a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida.
A remote swamp may provide a route for meeting contacts, avoiding major highways or searching for information hidden outside the city.

Could Jason and Lucia Hide in Grassrivers?
The region’s remote environment makes it appear suitable as a temporary hiding place.
Airboats, narrow channels and dense vegetation could help characters avoid normal road traffic and surveillance.
However, Grassrivers is not necessarily safe. Wildlife, difficult navigation and local groups may create different dangers.
Rockstar has not confirmed a hiding, camping or temporary shelter system for the region.
Grassrivers and the Leonida-Wide Conspiracy
When they thought they were going to pull off the ultimate heist for what they thought was going to be an easy score, Jason and Lucia find themselves in the middle of a criminal conspiracy.
The conspiracy then also spans the natural / rural regions of Leonida, so outside of the towns in this region should also become relevant at some point.
Maybe a piece of evidence is connected to one of the people involved in the conspiracy outside of Vice City (maybe even in a hidden meeting place or something that they use to transport themselves around the city, to other locations in the Vice City area such as Grassrivers, etc).
The other way, wetlands of Grassrivers can be used for smuggling contraband throughout the area, by not having to use roads and traffic patterns that would be normally policed by law enforcement.
These are mere speculations as I have no idea whether Grassrivers have anything to do with the game’s storyline at all. Rockstar hasn’t mentioned Grassrivers at all.
Grassrivers and Ambrosia
Ambrosia is an inland industrial and agricultural location built around the Allied Crystal sugar refinery.
Its fields, canals and flat landscape may connect naturally with the flooded environments of Grassrivers.
The two regions could represent a transition from controlled agricultural land into untamed wetlands.
Industrial runoff, farming and water management could also create environmental connections, although Rockstar has not announced a storyline involving pollution or the refinery’s impact on Grassrivers.

Grassrivers and the Leonida Keys
Both Grassrivers and the Leonida Keys are heavily connected to water, but their environments are different.
The Keys contains tropical islands, bridges, beaches and open coastal water. Grassrivers contains shallow wetlands, dense vegetation and muddy inland channels.
