The GTA 6 map will take players back to Vice City, but Rockstar Games is building a world that extends far beyond the famous neon-lit streets. Grand Theft Auto VI takes place across the fictional state of Leonida, a modern location inspired by Florida and filled with cities, islands, wetlands, industrial communities, coastal highways and national park environments.
Rockstar has officially revealed six major location groups so far: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga National Park. These regions show that GTA 6 will not simply recreate the map from 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Instead, players will explore a much broader state with dramatically different landscapes, communities and activities.
However, Rockstar has not yet published the complete GTA 6 map or confirmed its exact size. Maps circulating on social media are generally community reconstructions based on trailers, screenshots, road signs and visible landmarks. Some of those projects are impressively detailed, but they should not be mistaken for an official map.
This guide covers every confirmed GTA 6 location, what each region may offer, how Leonida differs from GTA 5’s San Andreas and what we still do not know about the final open world.

Where Does GTA 6 Take Place?
GTA 6 takes place in the state of Leonida. It is Rockstar’s fictional interpretation of Florida, just as San Andreas represents parts of California and Nevada in earlier Grand Theft Auto games.
Vice City is the best-known part of Leonida and is heavily inspired by Miami. The city includes beaches, nightlife districts, hotels, highways, high-rise buildings, residential neighbourhoods and busy commercial areas. Outside the city, Leonida contains tropical islands, wetlands, industrial towns, coastal communities and mountainous wilderness.

Rockstar describes GTA 6 as its biggest and most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series. That wording does not provide an exact map measurement, but it does indicate that the world is intended to feel broader, denser and more detailed than previous entries.

All Confirmed GTA 6 Map Locations
Rockstar’s official GTA 6 website and screenshot collection identify the following six major parts of Leonida.
| Location | Environment | Real-World Inspiration |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City | Large coastal city, beaches and nightlife | Miami |
| Leonida Keys | Tropical islands, bridges and waterways | Florida Keys |
| Port Gellhorn | Coastal town with a rougher atmosphere | Florida Gulf Coast communities |
| Ambrosia | Industrial and agricultural region | Central Florida industry |
| Grassrivers | Wetlands, swamps and wildlife | Florida Everglades |
| Mount Kalaga National Park | Forests, trails, rivers and mountains | Southeastern American wilderness |
Vice City
Vice City is the heart of the GTA 6 map and the location most players will immediately recognize. Rockstar’s modern interpretation keeps the tropical identity of the original city while greatly expanding its scale, population and variety.
Official trailers and screenshots show crowded beaches, nightclubs, hotels, residential streets, luxury properties, graffiti-covered areas, busy highways and dense downtown districts. The city appears to contain a much larger number of pedestrians and vehicles than previous Grand Theft Auto worlds.
Vice City will likely act as the main centre for GTA 6’s story, businesses, entertainment and criminal activity. Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are shown travelling through different parts of the city, visiting local properties and interacting with people connected to its nightlife and music scene.
The new Vice City is not locked into the 1980s setting of the original game. GTA 6 takes place in the modern era, with social media, viral videos, smartphones, online culture and modern vehicles shaping the atmosphere.

Leonida Keys
The Leonida Keys are a tropical island chain connected by roads and long bridges. This region is clearly inspired by the Florida Keys and introduces a very different style of exploration from the dense streets of Vice City.
Official material shows turquoise water, small islands, boats, aircraft, palm trees, coastal properties and long routes surrounded by open sea. The layout could make boats and other water-based travel more useful than they were in many previous GTA games.
The Keys are also connected to Brian Heder, an experienced local smuggler who operates through his boat yard. Jason appears to have an existing relationship with Brian, suggesting that the area may be important during the early part of the story.
Because the islands are spread across water, travelling between them should provide a strong contrast to driving through Vice City. The Keys may also contain hidden beaches, isolated buildings, docks and smaller communities away from major urban activity.
Port Gellhorn
Port Gellhorn – a worn, aged beach town with old motels, shops, and local businesses. Very different from Vice City.
Rockstar Games also recently posted up a bunch of screenshots from within the rougher coastal town of Port Gellhorn. It appears to be another worn out, down at the heels town filled with an assortment of worn out motels, a largely worn out, older shopping district where a handful of individually owned and operated shops and service industry related outlets, as well as a host of worn down bars and clubs, all of which clearly look down on the much wealthier area of town that is Vice City. The town as a whole appears to have seen better days, with a host of worn down structures and rough looking streets, in stark contrast to the higher end of town and everything that it has to offer. It’s the less traveled, of course, to be less than politically correct, economically down on their luck part of Leonida and while it is probably not a place that most tourists would typically care to visit, it does have its own unique brand of character.
So therefore, in this town we can have small robberies, maybe some side stories in the town, with the odd roadside joint or two. Meet the locals and there strange ways of life outside of the touristy Vice City ways.
Raul Bautista is a professional bank robber from the part of Leonida that Rockstar have shown in some of the screenshots of Port Gellhorn. Raul will probably become a character in Port Gellhorn for Jason and Lucia to get involved in in a couple of months time as they move on from the early smaller robberies and get into some more serious heists.
Ambrosia
Official Images of the Ambrosia region in Leonida showcases the more industrial side to the area, full of factories, machinery and even some agricultural sections of the map and communities that reside there in order to sustain the industry.

This region helps to solidify the idea that the map for GTA 6 is a fully functioning state or country as opposed to just a bunch of locations for Vice City tourists to explore. The industrial region gives a contrast to the center of Vice City and will give players a change of pace from the glamorous coastal streets of the city. It will also serve as a place for the production, transportation, and processing of the goods.
With Vice City’s industry located off in the regions of the GTA 6 map, we will have the chance to see numerous industrial locations that will bring a wide array of new game play such as searching for clues within a cluster of factories, a large storage depot, a rail yard, abandoned rural roads and long deserted farms; all to contrast with the missions and exploration found in the urban environment of downtown Vice City which is highly focused on tourism.
Ambrosia is another industrial region in GTA 6. The visuals of this region contrast greatly with Vice City. The region is very functional, allowing the player to see the “industrial” side of things and then travel to the Vice City beach and coast to really see how big the Vice City world is.
Grassrivers
Grassrivers is the main area of the island that comprises the wetland region of Leonida’s Grassrivers area, modeled after the Florida Everglades. The official Grassrivers trailers for the game include scenes of a flooded area with many bodies of water, an airboat, and a variety of wildlife such as alligators.

Considering that the majority of Grassrivers is a slow pace area, with roads leading to bigger bodies of water in some cases, it’s very likely that players will be traveling from place to place at a slower pace than usual. On top of normal on road and off road vehicles found in any other wetland area, there’s also a possibility of using boats to travel long distances across Grassrivers.
The Official Footage of Grassrivers gives us a good look at the wildlife found in the region, with many alligators shown swimming in the water, on the roads, and even near populated areas. We have yet to see how this wildlife will be portrayed in the game, but it will most likely add a layer of realism and possibly even some unpredictability to the area.
The area of Grassrivers will encourage slower exploration through the many roads which restrict land travel, and take to the water with a boat or off-road vehicle. There is much wildlife in the Grassrivers area, with all the footage showing many alligators and other animals, swimming in the water, near roads, and in populated areas. This will add a lot of realism to the environment, and is a great part of the game but…
Leonida consists of many Tropical Islands, large Wetlands and Towns, all in a huge and rich natural environment.
Mount Kalaga National Park
Mount Kalaga National Park introduces forests, hills, rivers and wilderness to the GTA 6 map. It is one of the clearest signs that Leonida extends far beyond a simple recreation of southern Florida.
Rockstar’s official screenshots show large wooded areas, outdoor activities and landscapes that look dramatically different from Vice City and the Leonida Keys.
This region may support hiking, hunting-related environmental encounters, off-road exploration and remote missions. Rockstar has not published a complete list of available activities, so specific gameplay claims should remain unconfirmed until more information is released.
Mount Kalaga could also help define the northern edge of the playable world. Its forests and elevation may provide natural boundaries while still giving players a large wilderness region to explore.
How Big Is the GTA 6 Map?
As of yet, Rockstar Games has not confirmed the size of the GTA 6 map in terms of square miles or square kilometers. We are referring to any calculations that the online community have put together to create a publicly available map size in square miles or square kilometers.

Open-world games can be very, very big and some community-mappers are trying to physically map out the entire GTA6 world from trailers, and in-game screenshots and such with coordinates of locations and such. They are also trying to discern the basic layout of the roads, road patterns, buildings, and other notable locations and etc. But the estimated square mileage of the map, as laid out by the community-mappers, is likely to change so dramatically when Rockstar releases the official map or the game itself.
Just noting that the size of the map in square miles or kilometers is not everything. There are many more factors that determine how big a game’s open world actually is. The size of the open world depends on the population density on the map, the size of all the interiors of the buildings, the traffic on the roads, the vertical space in the game world and so on. Most importantly: the variety of the environments and the amount of activities you can do in the game world. A big open world does not have to feel big. A small open world that contains a lot more usable locations and a lot more detailed interiors than a big open world can feel a lot bigger, even if the big open world is physically bigger. This is especially the case if one game is focusing more on density and diversity of the environment, like GTA 6 seems to do in Vice City for example.
Another thing to take into account is that a large open world does not necessarily mean a large playing field. A game world with more locations to use and with detailed interiors to explore could feel much larger than a world with a large playing field but with lots of empty space. The latest trailer for GTA 6 shows off the game’s dense world and the variety of activities you can do in it, with Vice City receiving a lot of the focus in terms of its various environmental activities.
Is the GTA 6 Map Bigger Than GTA 5?
Rockstar has described GTA 6 as the biggest and most immersive evolution of the series, but it has not released a direct measurement comparing Leonida with GTA 5’s San Andreas.
The confirmed variety of Leonida suggests a broader range of environments. GTA 5 included Los Santos, desert communities, mountains and coastal areas. GTA 6 adds a major city, island chains, wetlands, industrial regions, coastal towns and a national park.
Until official measurements become available, it is safer to say that GTA 6 appears more diverse and potentially denser rather than assigning an unsupported percentage to its size.

Will GTA 6 Have More Building Interiors?
Here are a few Vice City game trailers’ in game screen shots showing off the interior designs of homes, shops, clubs, motels, gyms etc that you can walk around in during the game.
There is also no confirmation of how many buildings are going to be enterable in the game. It has only been reported unverified that a certain percentage of all buildings will be enterable.
If more of the interiors were to be made accessible then the game world would become even more dense and there would be more space for the player to explore around the game world. He could shop, complete the story and side missions for the game and take part in any other activities in the game. We can only be certain of how much access to the interiors there is when we see some official gameplay footage or when the game is released.
Will the GTA 6 Map Expand After Release?
For now there is no confirmation from Rockstar regarding additional maps for GTA 6 post-launch. A few rumors of extra maps that players can play in have surfaced online, however, no maps have been revealed by Rockstar, nor has it been confirmed whether they will be released.
We will announce details of plans for online features for Grand Theft Auto: Online closer to launch. For now any information about maps to expand the current map is purely rumor.
Official Map Versus Fan-Made Maps
A complete official GTA 6 map has not yet been released. The detailed maps available on community websites are reconstructions created from public footage and screenshots.
Fan-made maps can be useful for analysing possible road layouts and landmark positions, but they may contain incorrect distances, missing regions or locations that are moved in the final game.
GamingFarms will replace estimated information with confirmed details when Rockstar publishes the final map.

Final Thoughts
The GTA 6 map will be one of the largest open worlds to date from Rockstar Games. The core of the map will be set within the Vice City and the surrounding areas of Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, Grassrivers and the massive Mount Kalaga National Park.
There are a lot of different environments in Leonida, not just the map size. You have to think about all the different places that the game could take place. There are the crowded city streets of the urban centers, the Tropical Islands that you can explore, the industrial locations of the various cities and towns, the wetlands and then you have the vast wilderness areas. All of these environments would allow for many different ways to get around the map. Each journey would be unique.
As I have said previously, none of us know the true size of the GTA 6 map or the true amount of interiors and roads that Rockstar will include within the game. It’s also unlikely that we will find out any information regarding post-launch map expansions, so for now it’s best to keep it a mystery.
