GTA 6 Mount Kalaga National Park is a major wilderness region located near the northern edge of Leonida. The park introduces mountains, rocky valleys, dense forests, rivers, wildlife and off-road routes to a map otherwise known for Vice City’s beaches, nightlife and tropical streets.
Rockstar Games officially presents Mount Kalaga as a national landmark where visitors can find hunting, fishing and off-road trails. Its isolated forests are also home to unusual backwoods residents who prefer living away from government attention and the modern world.
Official screenshots show winding highways passing between steep cliffs, a railway bridge crossing a river, people travelling by kayak, riders moving through mud on dirt bikes, hunters exploring woodland and wildlife gathering around forest water.
Mount Kalaga may therefore become GTA 6’s main location for wilderness exploration. It offers an environment where traditional road vehicles, off-road machines, kayaks and careful navigation could all become important.
This complete guide covers everything currently known about Mount Kalaga National Park, including its position in Leonida, forests, rivers, wildlife, hunting, fishing, kayaking, off-road travel, local residents and potential connection to Jason and Lucia’s story.

What Is Mount Kalaga National Park in GTA 6?
Mount Kalaga National Park is GTA 6’s major mountainous and forested wilderness region.
The park is positioned near Leonida’s northern border, separating it geographically and visually from the tropical coastlines found around Vice City and the Leonida Keys.
Official media shows steep rocky hills, elevated roads, rivers, railway infrastructure and extensive woodland. The environment appears cooler, greener and more mountainous than southern Leonida.
Mount Kalaga provides Rockstar with an opportunity to include terrain that would not normally be associated with a fictional version of Miami. Instead of limiting the map to beaches, wetlands and flat agricultural land, GTA 6 will allow players to travel into valleys and forest-covered hills.
The park may also help explain how the wider GTA 6 map changes gradually. Players could travel from Vice City through inland towns and industrial regions before eventually reaching the more isolated northern wilderness.

Where Is Mount Kalaga on the GTA 6 Map?
Mount Kalaga is in the northern part of the Rockstar developed region of Leonida in the upcoming game.
The Official GTA 6 map has not been fully released so we have no idea of the Mount Kalaga GTA 6 coordinates or the distance from Vice City GTA 6.
Since Mount Kalaga is situated in the northern part of the area, it will most likely be located in a part of the map which players have to travel to from other locations throughout the game. Some possible routes to Mount Kalaga National Park could be through Port Gellhorn or Ambrosia, or through various rural towns and settlements within the state of Leonida.
People have tried to work out the location by combining the official GTA 6 screenshots of the map with existing maps of the game world to include their own sketches of fictional roads and landscapes. These will likely be updated once the full map is released.
Many fans assume that Mount Kalaga must be on the boundary to another fully explorable Rockstar state because of its northern location within Leonida. However, currently there is no concrete evidence to support this theory.
How Big Is Mount Kalaga National Park?
We have not been able to find out the actual real life physical size of the Mount Kalaga National Park.
The six official screens from Rockstar showcase six different environments within Mount Kalaga National Park. These areas to explore include the canyon-based highway of the Rocky Trail, various paths through the forest, along a river, on a high railway bridge, at two of the hunter camps, and on some muddy tracks through the wilderness of the off-road trails.
These locations alone show that the park is not a small patch of mountains and trees.
A large area of wilderness does not have to be huge in physical terms. Traveling in such a place does not have to be in a straight line. The roads can curve around hills and follow irregular paths. Rivers can sometimes even block the car traveler’s way. And not all trails that lead into the wilderness will end up in the right place. A physically moderate area of wilderness with vertical features, hidden paths, rivers, and trails in remote places of the wilderness far removed from the mountain highway such as used by the auto tourist can offer a lot of exploration.
A moderate size of area to travel in can feel very big when there are peaks of vertical height to climb, many more unknown trails and routes to find, to travel along in the rivers and streams, and to find many places to visit off the main road.
Mountains, Canyons and Rocky Valleys
One of the most impressive Mount Kalaga screenshots shows a major highway passing through a rocky valley.
Steep slopes rise on both sides of the road, while another bridge crosses the landscape in the distance. Cars, trucks and motorcycles can be seen travelling through the area.
This environment is noticeably different from the flat highways around Vice City and the Leonida Keys.
Mountain roads may create new driving challenges, including:
- Sharp curves and changing elevation
- Limited visibility around cliffs
- Slower traffic involving heavy vehicles
- Alternative dirt routes above or below the highway
- Potential roadblocks during pursuits
The rocky landscape could also create opportunities for hidden paths, viewpoints and locations inaccessible from the main road.
Is Mount Kalaga Based on a Real Location?
There is no official confirmation from Rockstar Games on which national park or mountain they are basing Mount Kalaga off of.
While no one can say for certain that the area from the game draws from specifically northern Florida, Georgia and the rest of the US Southeast, the areas’ forested rivers, the red or orange rock that frequently adorns the landscape, the many mountainous roads and the occasional great railway
Several rivers and hundreds of forested sections run throughout Mount Kalaga. Also throughout Mount Kalaga are many various red to orange colored rock sections. In the mountainous region are various tight winding roads and train trestles spanning great heights across the landscape of Mount Kalaga. Mount Kalaga’s overall environment was seemingly modeled off of several different places.
As a result, the game has a completely fictional wilderness, yet to play in an environment that is designed for the gameplay and has a very realistic regional identity.
Comparing real world mountains or state parks to areas within the Rockstar world is fan analysis, not official confirmation.
Forests in Mount Kalaga
Much of Mount Kalaga National Park is dense woodland.
Official screenshots of Mount Kalaga show a lot of tall trees and thick grass. The area is very overgrown with tons of vegetation that at times blocks your view. There are sections of the area that are open but some of the sections are so dense that you could not see any wildlife or even people in front of a vehicle traveling down the road.
The dense forest will no doubt prove to be a further challenge to the player’s ability to explore the open world. This will be made even more difficult in places where visibility is already limited by tall trees and dense undergrowth, such as grass and foliage, and where enemies and other objects of interest will be hidden from view on nearby roads.
The forests and woodlands of Mount Kalaga will also allow for the natural use of cover in missions, often leaving the main roads and traveling down trails and dirt paths that normal drivers would not be able to see.
Rockstar have yet to confirm whether or not the trees and foliage will be destructible. For now though, we can only imagine how cars might fare while charging through smaller patches of greenery compared to thick, dense woodland.
Rivers and Railway Bridges

The Screen Shot provided by Rockstar Games of Mount Kalaga is of a man kayaking down the river which runs through the forest. You can clearly see the shallow river banks, boulders and trees as he makes his way down stream. The major feature of this Screen Shot is a massive metal railway bridge which crosses the river.
This shows there is railway infrastructure in northern Leonida. With trains passengers and goods can be transported through the state.
Players can get on the water and travel down the river, which provides an alternative to the roads for traveling. As you make your way down the river, you will see places that you can’t get to by land and get to go under many bridges in a kayak or other type of boat.
It is unclear if the player can board the trains within Mount Kalaga or how long the river in this area is.
Kayaking in Mount Kalaga
Kayaking appears directly in official Mount Kalaga imagery.
A kayak offers quiet and precise movement through rivers that may be too narrow or shallow for larger motorboats.
Kayaks could be useful for:
- Exploring forest rivers
- Travelling beneath railway bridges
- Reaching isolated riverbanks
- Moving quietly around wildlife
- Accessing fishing locations
Rockstar has not published a complete kayaking system. It is unknown whether kayaks can be purchased, permanently stored or transported on other vehicles.
The official screenshot nevertheless demonstrates that paddle-powered water travel exists within GTA 6’s world.
Fishing in Mount Kalaga
Rockstar list fishing among the activities you can get up to outdoors in Mount Kalaga.
The rivers of the park and all the waterways that flow through the forest, including the streams, are perfect for the avid fisher. Right now we have no information on the full implementation of the fishing including how the fishing equipment is used, what type of fish there are in the waters and what type of rewards the player will get for catching them.
Pass time by, trying to focus on it instead of the rest of the game, maybe interact with local characters or try to complete challenges for certain regions.
It is currently unknown if the player can purchase equipment for the activity, if different species of fish will be found in different locations around the game, or if he can even sell any fish he catches.

Hunting in Mount Kalaga
One of the ways to experience the park in Mount Kalaga National Park is by hunting, as revealed by Rockstar.

Rockstar already portrayed a hunting culture in the vicinity of the park but that does not automatically mean that the complete system of player-controlled activities in the game’s hunting section will look like this.
Optional challenges (e.g. tracking instead of straight shooting), local missions and stores/contacts with the inhabitants of the surrounding areas of the park (e.g. storekeepers, rangers). And do the animals track or just stand there waiting to be shot? A variety of hunting equipment for the hunter to unlock and will the wildlife he is hunting to award him something (in addition to the animal’s hide and the parts used for medicinal products, e.g.?)
The locals who live in the backwoods around Mount Kalaga National Park will have their own opinions on legal hunting, poaching and the park’s rules and regulations.
Rockstar has not as yet released a detailed description of how hunting will work, or listed out all of the species of animals that the player will be able to hunt.
Wildlife in Mount Kalaga
Mount Kalaga appears to contain some of GTA 6’s most varied land-based wildlife.
Official screenshots show deer gathering near water and a large wild cat moving through the same environment. Smaller animals can also be seen around the forest and trails.
This wildlife may behave differently from animals living around Vice City beaches or the Grassrivers wetlands.
The park’s known and visible animal life includes:
- Deer
- A large cougar or panther-like wild cat
- Smaller forest mammals
- Birds
Rockstar has not released the complete Mount Kalaga wildlife list.
Animals could appear according to location, time of day or weather. Those behavioural systems have not yet been officially explained.
Will Wildlife Attack Players?
So far as we know, Rockstar has yet to release a comprehensive GTA 6 Wildlife Behavior Guide.
Large predators can attack the player if he gets too close to them or enters their territory. In contrast, deer and other small animals will run away from the player.
Every individual animal can behave differently in various circumstances such as distance to the player, sounds around it, whether it has detected the player or not, whether the player is on foot or in a vehicle etc.
Also keep in mind that there are many of the large predators in the wildlife of GTA 6 that will not attack the player as soon as they see them, and there will also be many of the smaller animals that are not hostile towards the player.
When Rockstar release GTA 6 wildlife-behavior guide then we will get to see just how detailed and random Mount Kalaga’s wildlife interactions are.
Off-Road Trails
Off-road driving is one of Mount Kalaga’s officially highlighted activities.
Promotional imagery shows dirt bikes and other recreational vehicles moving through muddy forest trails.
These routes appear narrower and less predictable than normal paved roads. Mud, water, rocks and tree roots may affect vehicle handling.
Vehicles designed for city streets may struggle in the park, while dirt bikes, lifted trucks and all-terrain vehicles could perform more effectively.
Off-road trails may allow players to:
- Reach locations away from the highway
- Cross muddy forest areas
- Explore viewpoints and remote structures
- Escape road-based pursuit
- Participate in regional races or challenges
Rockstar has not announced a complete off-road racing or vehicle-trail activity list.
Dirt Bikes and All-Terrain Vehicles

Dirt bikes are perfect for this narrow mountain trail, which twists and turns throughout the uneven terrain of Mount Kalaga park. Other off-road vehicles you might find in the park include lifted 4×4 trucks and SUVs as well as ATVs and other all-terrain vehicles. Rockstar Games has not released an official list of vehicles in Mount Kalaga and it is not known if any of the recreational vehicles from within the park will be available for players to rent.
As mentioned before, other off-road vehicles found around the park are lifted trucks, lifted up SUVs and many other all-terrain machines that can move over rough surfaces and go places where regular cars will run the risk of losing traction and become stuck while trying to drive through.
There is no official confirmation from Rockstar Games regarding the vehicles to be playable at Mount Kalaga in GTA Online, and there is also no information about whether or not you can rent Recreational Vehicles within the park.
Could Mount Kalaga Have Off-Road Races?
Rockstar has not confirmed dedicated Mount Kalaga races.
The park’s trails, elevation and muddy terrain would make it suitable for dirt-bike and off-road competitions.
Races could follow organized routes or appear as informal events created by local residents.
This remains a reasonable possibility based on the environment rather than a confirmed gameplay feature.
Backwoods Residents
Mount Kalaga is ringed by a vast wilderness, home to many in-the-wild country residents.
They might be: Big game hunters. Isolated rural families. Conspiracy theorists. And everyone else who wishes to remain off the radar of the government in general.
Most likely this wilderness park will have very different communities than say Vice City, Port Gellhorn or Ambrosia.
Some of the residents of the area around Mount Kalaga would be excited to have Jason and Lucia to go exploring with in the back country (hunting, off-roading, etc.). Other people in the area would probably detest Jason and Lucia as much as they detest all government employees and any other person that they feel is snooping around.
There would be plenty of opportunity for bizarre side characters and local disputes. Many secrets and mysteries would be left to simmer in these remote wilderness locations.
Who Are the Hillbilly Mystics?
Rockstar’s Official Description of the rural mystics describes them to reside in the backwoods of Mount Kalaga.
No individual mystic, no philosophy has been presented by the company yet.
They could be isolated spiritual groups of local storytellers or a bunch of wack jobs that have built a religion around local legends and are living deep in the backwoods of where Mount Kalaga is.
Like before, Rockstar will likely use the backwoods residents to satirize parts of society, but like before, there is a chance that some of them could be of use to Max in the new park.
As of the time of writing, no confirmed mission, group or settlement in Red Dead Online has been revealed by the company to match this description.
Who Are the Paranoid Radicals?
A handful of paranoid residents live in Mount Kalaga, trying to keep to themselves off the grid from the rest of society and the government.
They are afraid of being harassed by the police or of being under surveillance with the help of new technologies. They are just hostile towards outsiders.
Their way of living and their isolation may relate to the themes of the game such as misinformation, online theories and how no to trust institutions from GTA 6.
He would be an interesting character to interact with though, given that Cal is a conspiracy theorist already monitoring the official communications of local government etc. as it is.
There is no confirmation from Rockstar Games whether or not Cal Hampton from the location in Florida has any connection to the residents of Mount Kalaga who are choosing to live in complete isolation from government services and from outside attention.
Could Cal Hampton Visit Mount Kalaga?
Cal Hampton – Jason’s friend and one of the more suspicious characters in the world of GTA 6.
For a long time Cal Hampton has been trying to find out more about powerful organizations and if they are hiding something.
There is an anti-government settlement in Mount Kalaga of Grand Theft Auto Online. This would align with the offline life of Cal as he is an avid fan of internet theories about powerful organizations hiding information.
This is a possible story connection rather than a confirmed mission.

Park Rangers and Law Enforcement
No information has been provided by Rockstar regarding the policing of Mount Kalaga.
A National Park like this would most likely to be patrolled by Rangers, Local Police etc. They would be primarily concerned with the wildlife and visitors to the park.
Compared to normal Vice City traffic, the few roads in Mount Kalaga would restrict the normal behavior of police cars. Thus, while normal police cars would engage in normal pursuits in Vice City, they would behave differently in Mount Kalaga.
Considering that there are very few roads and a huge area of wilderness in the park for those pursuits that normally go “out of town” in regular Vice City (e.g. with helicopters)?
There is no announced Ranger system, wildlife offense system or separate park wanted level for Mount Kalaga.
Can Players Camp in Mount Kalaga?
There is no information on a camping system for GTA 6 yet.
The environment seems to support camps, cabins, etc. temporary shelters of canvas such as tents do not appear to be part of Jason or Lucia’s travel arsenal.
Camping might appear here and there as characters will be doing camping in certain situations or places in the environment, but also potentially in missions. But that’s not really going to be a feature in the game that you can engage in as a full activity in a much more in-depth and complex way.
Cabins, Camps and Remote Properties
Mount Kalaga’s forests could contain isolated cabins, hunting camps and homes occupied by residents avoiding larger communities.
Rockstar has not released a complete building list for the park.
Remote properties could provide:
- Regional mission locations
- Temporary meeting places
- Homes for unusual side characters
- Evidence connected to the main conspiracy
- Places to discover environmental stories
These uses remain possibilities until specific locations are officially revealed.
Railways Through Mount Kalaga
The railway bridge shown above the river suggests that Leonida’s train network passes through Mount Kalaga.
Railways may connect the northern park with industrial towns and coastal cities elsewhere in the state.
Trains could transport goods through terrain where building a large highway would be difficult.
Rockstar has not confirmed whether players can freely board passenger trains, walk through carriages or control railway vehicles.
Helicopters and Aerial Travel

Aircraft are best suited to traveling to very remote locations and crossing over mountains quickly.
The helicopter could be law enforcement, park services, news, etc. even private residents.
However, the inclusion of aircraft in the Mount Kalaga world does not answer other important questions regarding ownership, storage, and other uses of aircraft within this world.
Mount Kalaga and Jason Duval
For now, I will only refer to confirmed facts about Jason Duval’s past experiences. Most of his experiences occurred in Leonida Keys. There, he is involved with local drug dealers, like Brian Heder, and does odd jobs for him from time to time.
In the game information on Mount Kalaga has not been supplied in regard to any personal contacts that Jason would have there.
His Army experiences and knowledge of difficult situations would be an asset while traversing the Forest and other areas of the Kalaga as he travels from point to point.
Jason goes to Mount Kalaga in all instances for a reason. Either he is searching for a particular contact, fleeing from others or attending to other business. All of the time this will be connected to his work at Leonida.

Mount Kalaga and Lucia Caminos
Lucia Caminos wants a better life after leaving the Leonida Penitentiary.
Her official background does not currently include a confirmed connection to Mount Kalaga.
The park may nevertheless become part of her journey with Jason as their criminal problems spread beyond Vice City.
Remote wilderness could give the pair somewhere to meet people who avoid normal cities, investigate hidden activity or travel without using major roads.

Could Jason and Lucia Hide in Mount Kalaga?
Mount Kalaga’s forests and limited road access could make it appear suitable as a temporary hiding location.
The protagonists may be harder to find away from Vice City’s cameras, crowds and major highways.
However, the park contains wildlife, local residents and authorities familiar with the area. It may not be as safe as it initially appears.
Rockstar has not confirmed a permanent safehouse, camping system or hiding mechanic inside Mount Kalaga.
Mount Kalaga and the Leonida Conspiracy
Jason and Lucia become trapped in a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida after an apparently easy score goes wrong.
A remote northern park could hide people, evidence or operations that would be difficult to maintain inside Vice City.
The anti-government residents around Mount Kalaga may know about unusual activity but refuse to cooperate with outsiders.
The park’s rivers, railway and mountain roads could also provide transportation routes connecting different parts of the state.
Rockstar has not revealed the park’s exact role in the main story.
Mount Kalaga and Port Gellhorn
Port Gellhorn contains motels, railway infrastructure, industrial areas and local nightlife.
Its railway may connect with the bridge and tracks running through Mount Kalaga, although an official route map has not been published.
Port Gellhorn could serve as one of the final developed towns players pass through before reaching the northern wilderness.

Mount Kalaga and Ambrosia
Ambrosia is an inland industrial region built around agriculture, a sugar refinery and biker activity.
Roads leading north from Ambrosia could eventually reach the hills and forests of Mount Kalaga.
The Final Chapter Motorcycle Club may also use rural routes outside the town, but Rockstar has not connected the biker group directly with the national park.
