The new mountain is not about one peak, one peak, instead it is a vast, wilderness-filled area that’s covered in forests, contains rivers, has mountain roads as well as off-road trails and tons of other outdoor activities to get up to.
On official Rockstar sources, Mount Kalaga National Park is described as a national landmark located in the northern area of Leonida, designed for hunting, fishing, and other off-road activities. Screenshots from Rockstar feature views of a river, a bridge of a train line, kayaks, dirt bikes and other vehicles that are able to traverse the mountain’s rough terrain, as well as forests full of animals and a variety of roads cutting through the landscape.
This is as opposed to the famous Chiliad Mountain from the Grand Theft Auto V world. The official Rockstar descriptions of Mount Kalaga National Park and all of the recreational activities in it within the world of Grand Theft Auto VI, suggest that instead of an iconic single peak, there is in fact a much larger area of the game’s northern wilderness.
Until now, there is no official information from Rockstar Games about the height, size and proportionate size of Mount Kalaga compared to Mount Chiliad. Thus, any percentage and comparison between both peaks which are declared as definitive by some fans are just speculation.

Mount Chiliad is a massive peak in the northern part of the Blaine County wilderness in the GTA 5 world of Southern San Andreas. The peak is a very recognizable landmark that can be seen from almost anywhere on the map.
It has many different routes up to the summit, including some rugged trails which cross the mountain from side to side. Most people however take the cable car up the eastern side, from the bottom of the mountain, which deposits them at the summit. From the summit of Mount Chiliad, the steep and rocky, wilderness like area around it, provides a very challenging area for players to explore. Many of the paths are steep, and made of large rocks and trees, and many connect to the dense and wooded Paleto Forest, as well as several cities and other locations.
The summit of Mount Chiliad (as well as the rest of the mountain) contains many unusual images and other environmental quirks. Like most things in this game, these have been investigated by fans attempting to figure out the game’s long-standing mysteries.
It stands out from the rest mainly because of the geographical features of the Mountain and the cultural significance the place holds. The mountain is possibly one of the best places to explore within the game, while being recognized as a landmark by itself as well.

Is Mount Kalaga Bigger Than Mount Chiliad?
There are no such measurements for the heights of Mount Chiliad and Mount Kalaga by Rockstar Games.
Mount Chiliad is a huge single peak, while Mount Kalaga National Park comprises of a very large area including roads, many forests, a river, and several highpoints.
This makes a simple size comparison difficult.
Mount Kalaga National Park could be enormous in terms of ground space, but have a much lower summit then Mount Chiliad. Alternatively, it’s possible that the Rockstar team created a much larger mountain range in terms of height and land mass then Mount Chiliad.
Neither possibility is officially confirmed.
There are fan-made maps of Leonida and the areas surrounding it. These maps attempt to define the boundaries of the area of Mount Kalaga National Park that Rockstar created. However, there are no official maps that have been released by Rockstar that would allow for size verification of any of the above size estimates.
Which Mountain Is Taller?
No official Mount Kalaga elevation has been published.
From what we can see in the visuals Mount Chiliad is the highest point in the world of Grand Theft Auto V, but we still can’t get a reliable figure for the height of Mount Kalaga from the published GTA 6 gameplay shots.
For the purposes of how something looks from a certain angle (i.e. from the in game camera) things can appear to be taller than they actually are. Long, rugged ridges can appear short when viewed from a great distance.
Until then (Rockstar releasing the information such as elevation data or us figuring out a way to accurately measure it in game) any information stating Mount Kalaga is taller than Mount Chiliad is unofficial.
Mountain Roads
Mount Kalaga official imagery shows a paved road running between steep rocky walls.
This suggests that major highways may cross parts of the national park instead of all travel being restricted to small wilderness tracks.
Mountain roads can create a very different driving experience from Vice City’s flat urban streets.

The road could cut up through the valley above the river, and the railway could cross the river in a completely different spot. So there are multiple levels of travel through the one area.
The view from Mount Chiliad is primarily from the mountain, focusing on the slopes and surrounding areas of the wilderness rather than any rivers.
Kayaking Compared With Cable-Car Travel
The two locations show very different specialized ways of experiencing their scenery.
Mount Chiliad’s cable car gives players an established method for reaching or leaving the mountain while taking in views of the surrounding landscape.
Mount Kalaga official media shows kayaking instead, emphasizing river-level exploration through the wilderness.
The comparison illustrates the different design philosophies:

In official promotional images of Mount Kalaga by Leonida there is a large railway bridge spanning a river.
The large railway bridge over a river at Mount Kalaga in Leonida’s wilderness in the northern part of the map that is presented in the official promotional media of Mount Kalaga in Rockstar’s GTA 6, too, will most likely be part of the railway network that was developed by Railways to connect Mount Kalaga with Port Gellhorn or other locations in the region. However, Rockstar has not provided any information on the rail map
In theory the lines could also be stretched to Port Gellhorn. But for now a complete map of all the lines in the world of GTA 6’s Leonida region is still to be revealed by Rockstar Games.
For reference, many of the railway lines and structures in GTA 5 are spread throughout Blaine County and the surrounding areas of mountains etc.
Unconfirmed GTA 6 features for the trains and the railway system in general, have been put forth by the developer. We have already seen the promotion of trains in other parts of Leonida but confirmation of full interactive passenger service is still lacking.
Off-Road Exploration
Rockstar specifically highlights off-road trails as part of Mount Kalaga.
Official imagery also shows dirt bikes travelling through muddy wilderness terrain.
This makes off-road exploration one of the clearest similarities with Mount Chiliad.
GTA 5 players can explore Chiliad’s trails with motorcycles, trucks and other suitable vehicles. The steep terrain creates dramatic climbs and descents.
Mount Kalaga may broaden that idea with:

Rockstar has not published a complete trail network or announced how many dedicated off-road routes the park contains.
Which Location Is Better for Dirt Bikes?

Mount Kalaga official media also prominently features riders using off-road motorcycles.
The final comparison may depend on trail variety rather than simple mountain height.
Mount Kalaga could offer routes through forests, mud and valleys, while Mount Chiliad specializes more strongly in steep mountain climbing and descending.
GTA 6’s complete vehicle handling model has not yet been detailed enough for a final comparison.
Wildlife in Mount Kalaga
Wildlife appears to be a major part of Mount Kalaga’s ecosystem.
Official screenshots show deer and other animals around forest and river environments. A large wild cat is also visible in the official material.
This suggests that travelling away from roads may involve more animal activity than players encounter inside Vice City.
Rockstar has not released a complete Mount Kalaga species list or explained every wildlife behaviour.

Wildlife in the Mount Chiliad area of the Blaine County countryside makes you feel a world away from Los Santos when exploring the mountainous, forested and rural environments beyond the roads and towns of the area.
GTA 6 might integrate the regional wildlife of Mount Kalaga more visibly in the marketing of the national park in the game.
Rockstar has not published the amount of species in both games.
Outdoor Activities
Mount Kalaga is officially promoted around outdoor recreation.
Rockstar lists fishing, hunting and off-road trails for outdoor enthusiasts at the location. The official imagery at the location features a kayak.
Mount Chiliad is also shown in-game with a variety of outdoor activities and exploration. This includes allowing the player to go hiking-style through the mountain, use mountain vehicles, take the cable-car and reach the top of the mountain while experiencing the surrounding Blaine County environment.
While several activities were showcased by Rockstar for Mount Kalaga in their environment preview for the area, the park and recreational space appears largely aimless and open ended as an ‘outdoor’ style type of park and location designed for players to get involved in various recreational activities.
The full extent to which all of these activities will be played out in the game are currently unknown.
Fishing Gives Mount Kalaga Another Difference
One of the locations teased by Rockstar for GTA 6 is Mount Kalaga, where fishing is one of the things you can do according to the company’s official description for the game.
I’ve also read that the area includes some river environments, which would be awesome and would probably include more spots to fish around. The game’s rivers currently are often just a means to get around, hopefully in the game they can be more immersive for the player and include more fishing spots and areas to just relax by the water.
So far Rockstar have not revealed much more information on the GTA 6 fishing and how in depth or how broad in scope it will be.
We could not find any previous GTA games that focused on fishing at Mount Chiliad.
This will more than likely be a well rounded outdoor activity location in the GTA 6 Mount Kalaga area.
Viewpoints and Scenery
Another view point in GTA 5 is the summit of Mount Chiliad.
This allows for the player to see a large portion of Blaine County as well as the outskirts of the rest of the map from higher up areas.
The Official Screenshots of Mount Kalaga, an area of the Stalkers park in the GTA V world, show the elevated roads and many ridges of the area as well as the various rivers and valleys below. There are many cool viewpoints of Leonida from all of the accessible ridges of the Stalkers park.
If the park had ridges that one could access the view would be similar to Leonida from different angles and vantage points.
We have not established the highest point on Mount Kalaga nor confirmed whether the Vice City skyline is visible from within the boundaries of the park.
Which Location Has Better Scenery?
This will ultimately be subjective.
Mount Chiliad – The highest peak in the game. It is extremely high up, has very steep slopes and a big summit on top of the mountain.
Mount Kalaga has a variety of environments: forests, deep rocky valleys with a river, a cool looking railway bridge and lots of trails.
Mount Chiliad will likely appeal to the same type of person that is drawn to dramatic verticality, whereas Mount Kalaga (with its vast national-park environment) offers a far greater variety of environments for the player to explore.
The finished game will have to compare visuals and gameplay to make a fair assessment.
Backwoods Residents
Beyond the tourists and wildlife that inhabit the Mount Kalaga region, the backwoods surrounding the mountain are home to a unique group of inhabitants. Most live in the area in hopes that they will be left alone, free from the rest of society and the trappings of government that plague the rest of Vice City.
It humanizes the area as opposed to just a nature reserve that people go and visit to look at animals.
These oddball characters could bring their own individual and isolated stories to the game and they would be completely unrelated to the stories in Vice City of how the game was made by Rockstar.
There are a number of rather isolated characters residing in Mount Chiliad and Blaine County – but this is their identity as portrayed by Rockstar and it’s more relevant to GTA 6 and the backwoods communities of Mount Kalaga than it is to a area that most tourists wouldn’t know exists, let alone visit.
Connection to Nearby Towns
Mount Chiliad is close to established locations in the world of Blaine County and naturally joins up with Paleto Bay and the northern countryside.
Mount Kalaga’s nearby settlements remain less clearly defined.
Rockstar have confirmed that Mount Chiliad is located in the National Park within the Leonida area, but a full list of towns, as well as the various Ranger Stations and communities located throughout the park have yet to be revealed.
This leaves significant room for unrevealed northern locations.
Climate and Weather
Mount Chiliad frequently appears cooler and more exposed than the lower desert and city regions of GTA 5.
Mount Kalaga appears lush, green and humid in the currently released imagery.
Its forests and waterways may respond visually to rain and changing conditions, although Rockstar has not announced a detailed park-specific weather system.
No permanent snow zone has been confirmed for Mount Kalaga.
Claims that its summit will regularly contain snow should therefore be treated as speculation.
Day and Night Exploration
Similar differences can be noted when exploring the two areas at night after sunset.
As night falls the trails become difficult to follow especially on the less used roads far out from civilization.
Mount Kalaga, with all of its dense forested trails, will most likely lose even more visibility at night due to the abundance of trees and other landscape features that block your view of landmarks in the distance.
Nightfall on the very remote areas of the mountains with lots of wildlife and few residents will no doubt be very unpredictable.
Rockstar Games has yet to reveal any in game events that take place at night on Mount Kalaga.
Hidden Locations and Mysteries
Mount Chiliad is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Grand Theft Auto universe today because of all of the strange secrets that Rockstar developers hid in the mountain for players to discover over the years while trying to understand the environment.
That history naturally creates expectations for Mount Kalaga.
A large GTA 6 national park setting with its own forests, its own rivers and with remote communities hidden away is bound to have many secrets of great interest to all of us found by Rockstar.
Any information on ‘mysteries’ of Mount Kalaga that are not confirmed by an official announcement or shown in the game itself are mere rumors.
Rumors of underground secret facilities, secret underground tunnels or supernatural locations to visit are just Rumors and remain so until officially confirmed in official materials or in the game itself.
Could Mount Kalaga Become GTA 6’s Main Mystery Region?
It is possible, but not confirmed.
The park’s remote geography and unusual residents make it suitable for environmental storytelling and mysteries.
Grassrivers could compete for the same role because its dense mangroves and waterways also provide places for hidden discoveries.
Rockstar has not designated one GTA 6 region as the official successor to Mount Chiliad’s mystery culture.
Mount Kalaga and Jason Duval
Jason Duval’s confirmed background is centred farther south in the Leonida Keys.
Rockstar has not revealed a personal history between Jason and Mount Kalaga.
The main GTA 6 story nevertheless stretches across Leonida, so the northern wilderness may eventually become relevant to Jason and Lucia’s journey.
The park could provide a location away from the major criminal networks of Vice City, although specific campaign events remain unrevealed.

Lucia Caminos is similarly not known to have a personal connection with the park.
Her story begins from circumstances linked to Leonida Penitentiary and her partnership with Jason.
As the pair become caught in a conspiracy stretching across the state, Mount Kalaga may provide another major regional setting.
Rockstar has not revealed specific missions involving Lucia inside the national park.
Mount Kalaga Compared With Grassrivers
Mount Kalaga and Grassrivers are GTA 6’s two most heavily promoted natural wilderness regions.
Grassrivers is flat, flooded and shaped by swamp channels. Mount Kalaga is elevated, forested and built around mountain valleys and rivers.

Mount Chiliad, a massive elevated area to explore at the summit of Mount Chiliad from various routes.
Mount Kalaga is more of a varied exploration location since the destination of this location is comprised of of a lot of of forests, roads, rivers, etc. all of which provide opportunities for off-road driving.
Enter the park by car, then swap to a dirt bike to travel cross country, then get in a kayak to paddle up the river and explore from the water.
This could potentially change the way we look at Mount Kalaga from being a collection of locations to a single large and explorable environment with many locations within it.
It really depends on the game and how crowded with interesting things and places to explore Mount Kalaga is.
Will Mount Kalaga Replace Mount Chiliad?
Mount Kalaga is not literally replacing Mount Chiliad because the two locations belong to different game worlds.
It appears to perform a similar role as GTA 6’s major northern mountain wilderness, but Rockstar is expanding the concept into a national park.
Mount Chiliad remains an important part of GTA 5 and GTA Online.
