Last updated: September 8, 2026

The GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Series X comparison currently begins with one major difference: Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are officially confirmed GTA VI platforms, while Rockstar Games has still not announced a Windows PC version.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches for Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Microsoft currently lists the game as Optimized for Xbox Series X|S and confirms single-player support, Xbox achievements and Xbox cloud saves.
PC players do not currently have an equivalent release date, official system requirements, Steam listing or Rockstar Games Launcher announcement.
That makes Xbox the clear option for players who want guaranteed access to GTA 6 at launch.
PC becomes more interesting when we discuss what could happen later. Rockstar’s previous PC releases demonstrate that Windows versions can offer extensive graphics settings, higher resolutions, high frame rates, keyboard and mouse support, wider aspect ratios and other PC-specific options.
GTA V Enhanced on PC also supports modern technologies such as NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, ray-traced effects, higher aspect ratios and higher frame rates on compatible hardware.
However, none of those GTA V features automatically confirms equivalent functionality in a future GTA 6 PC version.
As of September 8, Rockstar has not confirmed GTA 6 PC support for DLSS, FSR, ultrawide monitors, keyboard and mouse, mods, ray tracing or unlocked frame rates.
This guide compares GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Series X|S across release timing, graphics, performance, controls, storage, Series X versus Series S hardware, possible PC advantages and which platform currently makes the most sense.

Is GTA 6 Coming to Xbox Series X?
Yes.
Xbox Series X is an officially confirmed GTA 6 launch platform.
Grand Theft Auto VI releases on November 19, 2026.
Microsoft’s official GTA VI page directly lists Xbox Series X|S as the supported Xbox platforms.
You can verify current availability through the official Xbox GTA VI page.
Is GTA 6 Coming to Xbox Series S?
Yes.
Rockstar and Microsoft both confirm Xbox Series S support.
This is important because Series S has less graphics performance and memory than Series X but remains part of Rockstar’s official current-generation Xbox target.
Rockstar has not announced a reduced map, different story or separate mission structure for Series S.
Both systems are receiving Grand Theft Auto VI.
Is GTA 6 Coming to PC?
PC remains unannounced.
Rockstar’s current GTA VI platform list contains:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X
- Xbox Series S
Windows PC is not currently included.
This makes any current GTA 6 PC performance comparison theoretical.
Read our complete GTA 6 PC guide for the broader PC status.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Release Date
Xbox has a major practical advantage because its release date is confirmed.
| Release Feature | Xbox Series X|S | PC |
|---|---|---|
| Platform announced | Yes | No |
| Release date | November 19, 2026 | Not announced |
| Pre-orders | Available | Not announced |
| Pre-load | November 12, 2026 | Not announced |
| Official store listing | Yes | No official PC listing |
| System requirements | Fixed Series X|S hardware | Not announced |
When Is GTA 6 Coming to PC?
There is no official GTA 6 PC release date.
Rockstar has not confirmed 2027, 2028 or any other PC release year.
GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 eventually arrived on PC after their original console releases, which is why a later GTA 6 PC version is widely expected.
Historical patterns do not provide an official GTA 6 date.
Read our GTA 6 PC release-date guide.
GTA 6 Xbox Pre-Load
Rockstar Support confirms that GTA 6 pre-loading begins at local midnight on November 12, 2026.
That gives Xbox players approximately one week to prepare the game before the November 19 release.
No PC preload schedule exists because the PC version has not been announced.
For official platform and pre-load information, see the Rockstar Support GTA VI Platforms and Editions page.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Series X Graphics
A real graphics comparison cannot yet be performed.
Xbox Series X is a confirmed target with fixed hardware.
PC has no announced version, settings menu or requirements.
Rockstar has not released PC screenshots or benchmarks.
This means statements such as:
- PC has better textures
- PC has better shadows
- PC has stronger reflections
- PC has higher NPC density
- PC has longer draw distance
are not currently confirmed GTA 6 facts.

Could GTA 6 Look Better on PC?
A future PC version could potentially scale beyond console graphics when running on sufficiently powerful hardware.
This is normal for many PC games because graphics settings can be adjusted according to system performance.
A future high-end GTA 6 PC version could potentially offer options involving:
- Higher resolution
- Higher texture quality
- Longer draw distance
- More advanced ray tracing
- Higher frame rates
- Different anti-aliasing options
Rockstar has not confirmed any of these GTA 6 PC options.
What GTA V PC Tells Us About Rockstar
Rockstar has previously delivered significant PC-specific enhancements.
GTA V’s original PC release officially supported:
- 4K and higher resolutions
- 60 FPS capability
- More than 25 graphics-quality settings
- Mouse and keyboard customization
- Population-density controls
- Dual and triple monitor support
- Controller support
Rockstar later upgraded GTA V on PC with modern features including DLSS, AMD FSR and additional ray-traced effects.
This demonstrates Rockstar’s PC capabilities but does not establish GTA 6 specifications.
See Rockstar’s official GTA V PC launch article.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Series X Performance
Neither platform currently has confirmed GTA 6 PC-versus-Xbox frame-rate numbers.
Xbox Series X is supported, but Rockstar has not announced the final GTA 6 frame rate.
PC has no announced build.
| Performance Feature | Xbox Series X | PC |
|---|---|---|
| Exact GTA 6 FPS | Not announced | Not announced |
| 60 FPS mode | Not confirmed | Not announced |
| 120 FPS | Not confirmed | Not announced |
| Exact resolution | Not announced | Not announced |
| Graphics modes | Not announced | Not announced |
| Hardware scalability | Fixed console | Potential if PC version is released |
Will GTA 6 Run at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X?
Rockstar Games have not officially confirmed a 60 FPS mode for the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series on Xbox Series X.
Note that while the Xbox Series X platform is designed to support games running at high frame rates (up to 120FPS), that doesn’t necessarily mean every game running on the platform will be capable of hitting 60 FPS, let alone 120 FPS.
GTA 6 contains a complex open-world simulation involving:
- Traffic
- Pedestrians
- Wildlife
- Physics
- Water
- Vehicles
- Environmental systems
Only Rockstar can confirm the final target.
Xbox Series X Supports Up to 120 FPS — But What About GTA 6?
Microsoft lists Xbox Series X as hardware capable of performance targets up to 120 FPS.
That is a general console specification.
It is not a confirmation that GTA 6 runs at 120 FPS.
No 120 FPS GTA VI mode is currently announced.
Could GTA 6 PC Run at Higher FPS?
A future PC version could potentially scale to higher frame rates on sufficiently powerful CPUs and GPUs.
Rockstar’s original GTA V PC release was officially demonstrated at 60 FPS.
However, GTA 6 is substantially newer and its PC implementation is unknown.
There is no official GTA 6 PC FPS cap or performance target.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Series S Performance
Xbox Series S is less powerful than Series X, so players naturally expect differences.
Rockstar has not revealed those differences.
There is currently no official GTA 6 Series S figure for:
- Resolution
- Frame rate
- Texture quality
- Ray tracing
- Draw distance
- NPC density
- Traffic density
Any exact Series S configuration currently circulating online is unofficial.
Xbox Series X vs Series S Hardware
Microsoft’s official console specifications show a substantial hardware difference.
| Hardware | Xbox Series X | Xbox Series S |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | 8-core custom Zen 2 | 8-core custom Zen 2 |
| GPU | 12 TFLOPS, 52 CUs custom RDNA 2 | 4 TFLOPS, 20 CUs custom RDNA 2 |
| Memory | 16 GB GDDR6 | 10 GB GDDR6 |
| Storage | Custom NVMe SSD | Custom NVMe SSD |
| Platform target | Premium current-generation Xbox | Lower-cost current-generation Xbox |
These are Xbox hardware specifications—not GTA 6 rendering specifications.
Will GTA 6 Look Better on Series X Than Series S?
Series X provides substantially greater graphics resources.
It is therefore reasonable to expect Rockstar to use different technical settings between the two systems.
However, we should not invent exactly what changes.
Rockstar has not said that Series S definitely has:
- Lower texture quality
- Fewer pedestrians
- Less traffic
- No ray tracing
- A 30 FPS limit
Those details remain unknown.
Will Series S Have the Full GTA 6 Map?
Rockstar has announced the same Grand Theft Auto VI title for Xbox Series X|S.
No smaller Series S map has been announced.
Players should therefore not confuse hardware graphics differences with game-world content.
Will Series S Have Fewer Missions?
No.
There is no announcement of fewer story missions or characters on Series S.
Jason and Lucia’s same main Leonida story is advertised for Xbox Series X|S.
Will Series S Have Fewer NPCs?
Rockstar has not announced reduced population density for Series S.
This remains speculation until technical settings become available.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Resolution
No GTA 6-specific rendering resolution is officially published for Series X, Series S or PC.
Microsoft describes Series X as a console designed around True 4K gaming and Series S around a 1440p gaming target.
Those are general hardware targets and should not be converted into claims that GTA 6 specifically runs at native 4K on Series X or 1440p on Series S.
Will GTA 6 Be Native 4K on Series X?
Rockstar has not confirmed native 4K rendering for GTA 6.
The game could use native rendering, dynamic resolution or reconstruction.
We will need Rockstar specifications or post-release technical analysis to know the final configuration.
Could GTA 6 PC Run at Native 4K?
Potentially.
A powerful PC could theoretically render a future GTA 6 Windows version at high resolutions if Rockstar provides the necessary options.
No GTA 6 PC resolution support has been announced.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Ray Tracing
Rockstar has not published the final GTA 6 ray-tracing implementation for Xbox Series X|S.
Similarly, there is no PC ray-tracing feature list.
Claims involving:
- Ray-traced reflections
- Ray-traced shadows
- Global illumination
- Path tracing
should therefore remain unconfirmed.
Could PC Have Better Ray Tracing?
A powerful future PC could potentially run more demanding ray-tracing settings than fixed console hardware.
Rockstar’s GTA V Enhanced PC version already includes ray-tracing features beyond those originally available on consoles, such as ray-traced ambient occlusion and global illumination.
This provides useful historical precedent.
It does not confirm GTA 6 PC ray-tracing features.
See Rockstar’s official GTA V Enhanced PC upgrade announcement.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox DLSS and FSR
No GTA 6 PC DLSS or FSR support has been announced.
Xbox Series X|S obviously does not use NVIDIA DLSS because its graphics hardware is AMD-based.
Rockstar could use other reconstruction techniques on consoles, but exact GTA 6 technologies remain unrevealed.
Could GTA 6 PC Support DLSS?
Possibly.
GTA V Enhanced currently supports NVIDIA DLSS 3.
This demonstrates that Rockstar already implements NVIDIA upscaling technology in one of its PC GTA titles.
It does not make DLSS a confirmed GTA 6 feature.
Could GTA 6 PC Support AMD FSR?
Again, possibly.
GTA V Enhanced supports AMD FSR technology.
No GTA 6 PC FSR announcement exists today.
Will GTA 6 PC Have Frame Generation?
No frame-generation feature has been announced.
Do not treat unofficial graphics-settings screenshots as confirmation.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Loading Times
Xbox Series X and Series S use custom NVMe SSD storage.
Microsoft’s hardware design gives both consoles high-speed storage intended for current-generation game streaming.
Rockstar has not published exact GTA 6 Xbox loading-time benchmarks.
A future PC version could potentially use modern SSDs and technologies such as DirectStorage, but GTA 6 PC storage requirements remain unknown.
Will GTA 6 Require an SSD on PC?
Not officially confirmed.
It is a reasonable expectation because GTA V Enhanced already requires SSD storage and GTA 6 is designed around current-generation consoles.
However, Rockstar has not published GTA 6 PC minimum requirements.
Read our GTA 6 PC system requirements guide.
Xbox Series X Storage
Xbox Series X models use custom NVMe SSD storage.
Microsoft currently offers different Series X storage capacities depending on the model.
Rockstar has not announced the final GTA 6 installation size.
This means players should not assume unofficial 150 GB, 200 GB or 300 GB estimates are real.
Xbox Series S Storage
Series S is available in different internal storage capacities as well.
Storage space may become a larger practical concern on lower-capacity models once Rockstar publishes the actual GTA 6 download size.
Until then, deleting games based on leaked placeholder sizes is unnecessary.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Controls
Xbox players will use the normal Xbox controller ecosystem.
PC could potentially provide keyboard, mouse and controller options if a Windows version is released.
Rockstar has not announced GTA 6 PC input support.

Will GTA 6 PC Support Keyboard and Mouse?
Rockstar has not officially confirmed it because GTA 6 PC itself is unannounced.
Rockstar’s existing PC games offer keyboard and mouse support.
The original GTA V PC release provided extensive keyboard-and-mouse customization.
This makes equivalent support reasonable to expect from any future GTA 6 PC port, but it is not currently confirmed.
Keyboard and Mouse vs Xbox Controller
Neither input method is universally better.
An Xbox controller provides:
- Analog movement
- Analog trigger input
- Comfortable vehicle control
- Simple couch gaming
Keyboard and mouse can provide:
- Fast camera movement
- Precise cursor aiming
- More bindable keys
- High customization potential
Player preference matters more than a theoretical advantage in most single-player gameplay.
Which Is Better for Aiming?
Fast and precise movement around the game world is achieved by PC players using a mouse to control the camera.
Controller users are typically used to playing games with analog sticks, so they look for games that feature vehicle controls, aiming and other support geared towards that type of play.
Rockstar have not announced any news on the GTA 6 aim-assist settings for PC mouse and subsequent implementation.

GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Controller Features
This is unlike Sony’s DualSense controller for PS5 where adaptive trigger resistance and advanced haptics have been detailed for GTA 6.
Xbox provides its standard controller and accessory ecosystem.
This will have no bearing on the core storyline and gameplay of GTA 6.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Audio
Microsoft’s Xbox Series hardware supports modern spatial audio formats at the platform level.
Rockstar has not yet published a detailed GTA 6-specific Xbox audio feature list.
A future PC version could support a range of Windows audio configurations, but no GTA 6 PC format list exists.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Ultrawide Support
PC gaming potentially offers one major display advantage: unusual aspect ratios.
Rockstar’s previous PC titles have supported wider display configurations.
However, GTA 6 PC ultrawide support remains unannounced.
Will GTA 6 Support 21:9 on PC?
No official 21:9 announcement exists.
Will GTA 6 Support 32:9 on PC?
No official 32:9 support has been announced either.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Mods
PC has historically been the more open Grand Theft Auto platform for community modifications.
However, Rockstar has not announced official GTA 6 mod support.
There is also no GTA 6 FiveM compatibility announcement.
Therefore, players should not purchase a PC today based solely on promises of future GTA 6 mods.
Will GTA 6 Support FiveM?
No GTA 6-specific FiveM or Cfx.re support has been announced.
Existing GTA V servers and modifications should not be assumed to transfer automatically.
Will Rockstar Editor Return on PC?
Rockstar Editor has not been announced for GTA 6.
GTA V PC historically included the Editor, but sequel features need their own confirmation.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Achievements
Xbox achievements are explicitly listed for GTA 6 by Microsoft.
A future PC release could have its own achievements through Rockstar or PC storefronts, but no PC achievement system has been announced.
GTA 6 Xbox Cloud Saves
Microsoft’s GTA VI Store page lists Xbox cloud saves.
This provides Xbox ecosystem synchronization for supported game data.
Cloud saves should not be confused with Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Is GTA 6 Coming to Xbox Cloud Gaming?
No GTA 6 Cloud Gaming launch has been announced.
An Xbox cloud-saves listing does not confirm game streaming.
Is GTA 6 Coming to Xbox Game Pass?
No day-one Game Pass launch has been announced.
GTA 6 is currently sold as a standalone Xbox title through Microsoft’s store.
Future subscription availability could change, but there is no official launch-day Game Pass confirmation today.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Purchase Cost
Microsoft’s US store currently lists GTA VI Standard Edition for Xbox at $79.99 and Ultimate Edition at $99.99.
Regional prices vary.
No GTA 6 PC price exists because a PC edition has not been announced.
The wider hardware cost comparison is even more variable.
Xbox Series X and Series S are fixed products, while gaming PC prices can range dramatically depending on CPU, GPU, memory and storage.
Is Xbox Series S the Cheapest Way to Play GTA 6?
Series S is Microsoft’s lower-end console for Xbox. As the cheaper Xbox alternative, it will also be supported by the upcoming open-world crime game GTA 6.
However whether or not Series S represents the cheapest Xbox option will depend on region and current console pricing as well as whether the player already owns suitable hardware.
The advantage of Series S is that it is confirmed to be compatible with GTA 6 by Rockstar, so you don’t have to worry whether your hardware is good enough.
Is Xbox Series X Better for GTA 6 Than Series S?
Only hardware capability counts, so the more powerful Series X Xbox console is clearly the Series X.
It has substantially greater GPU resources and more memory.
However, these resolutions and frames per second will be specific to the potential of GTA 6.
So, for now, if graphical power-beneath-the-cowl is your main concern then Series X is the safer ‘version’ to consider but until Rockstar release some technical information on GTA 6, we’re making all this up.
Could a Gaming PC Cost More Than Xbox Series X?
Yes.
A high-end gaming PC can cost substantially more than a fixed console.
It can also provide broader capabilities beyond GTA 6, including productivity, upgradeability and access to a larger PC software ecosystem.
There is no official GTA 6 PC requirement with which to calculate the cheapest PC capable of matching Series X.
Should You Build a PC for GTA 6 Now?
Building a PC solely around GTA 6 before Rockstar releases requirements creates unnecessary uncertainty.
We currently do not know:
- Minimum CPU
- Recommended CPU
- Minimum GPU
- Recommended GPU
- RAM requirement
- VRAM requirement
- SSD requirement
- PC release date
Players who need a PC for other games or work can obviously purchase one for those purposes.
A GTA 6-specific build is better planned after Rockstar provides specifications.
Should You Buy Xbox Series X for GTA 6?
Xbox Series X makes sense for players who:
- Want to play GTA 6 on November 19
- Prefer Xbox
- Want the stronger Xbox hardware option
- Want simple fixed-console compatibility
- Use Xbox achievements and cloud saves
You do not need to wait for a future PC version or compare minimum specifications.
Should You Buy Xbox Series S for GTA 6?
Series S makes sense for players who:
Want GTA 6 at launch
Prefer a lower-cost Xbox entry point
Do not need the strongest Xbox hardware
Are comfortable waiting for Rockstar’s final technical details
The main uncertainty is how
GTA 6 looks and performs relative to Series X.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox for Gameplay Recording
Both Xbox and PC gaming ecosystems can support gameplay capture but with different approaches to achieve the capture functionality.
Xbox has built-in capture right at the console level.
PC users have access to a much wider variety of software for recording as well as customized encoding choices.
Note that recording gameplay on PC can consume considerable system resources, however, this can be offset by the use of dedicated hardware and/or optimized encoders.
No GTA 6 PC recording-performance information exists yet.

Which Is Better for GTA 6 Walkthrough Videos?
Xbox has the advantage of confirmed launch access.
A creator can begin recording GTA 6 when the Xbox version releases.
A future PC version could potentially provide more capture flexibility and graphical settings, but a creator would need to wait for Rockstar’s PC release.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox for Mods and Custom Content
PC could eventually become the more flexible platform for community-created content.
That expectation is based largely on the history of GTA games on PC.
GTA 6-specific mod policies and tools remain unknown.
GTA 6 PC vs Xbox for Long-Term Upgrades
A major differentiator between PCs and consoles as hardware platforms is that PCs are individual components which can typically be upgraded by a player.
A player can swap out the GPU, or add more storage to play games later on.
Xbox Series X and Series S consoles have fixed hardware specs, but support expansion of storage on the console.
The PC is more flexible in the long run but the Xbox lets Rockstar optimize for a single hardware configuration.
Could Xbox Optimization Beat a Similar PC?
It is possible for a console game to perform efficiently because developers optimize around a fixed hardware configuration.
PC performance depends on a much larger range of hardware and software combinations.
This means comparing console specifications directly with similarly named PC components is not always useful.

Which Should You Choose: GTA 6 PC or Xbox Series X?
Right now, the best option for players wanting GTA 6 at launch on the new games is Xbox Series X.
Choose Xbox Series X if you prioritize:
- Simple setup
- Fixed compatibility
- Xbox achievements
- Xbox cloud saves
Wait for PC if you strongly prioritize the possibility of:
- Higher-end hardware scalability
- Extensive graphics settings
- Keyboard and mouse
- Higher refresh rates
- Ultrawide displays
- PC community modifications
Note that the above points relating to GTA6 on PC have yet to be confirmed by Rockstar.
Which Should You Choose: PC or Xbox Series S?
This decision is more strongly influenced by budget.
Series S provides official GTA 6 compatibility without requiring a high-end gaming PC.
A PC may eventually provide more flexibility but currently has no GTA 6 release date or specifications.
Players who simply want an accessible Xbox route into GTA 6 can consider Series S, while players focused on the strongest Xbox experience should look toward Series X.
Which Is Best for Launch Day?
Xbox Series X and Series S win by default because they are confirmed launch platforms.
PC has no November 19 release announcement.
Which Could Be Best Long Term?
That cannot be decided yet.
If Rockstar eventually releases a deeply scalable PC version with extensive graphical options, PC could become attractive to enthusiasts.
Xbox could remain the better option for players who prefer the simplicity and consistency of console gaming.

Final Thoughts
The GTA 6 PC vs Xbox Series X comparison currently has a clear winner in one category: availability.
Xbox Series X and Series S are officially supported GTA 6 platforms and will receive the game on November 19, 2026.
PC remains unannounced.
Microsoft also confirms that GTA 6 is Optimized for Xbox Series X|S and supports Xbox achievements and cloud saves.
Series X is the more powerful Xbox option. Microsoft’s official hardware specifications give it a 12-TFLOPS custom RDNA 2 GPU and 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, compared with the Series S’s 4-TFLOPS GPU and 10 GB of GDDR6.
Those differences make Series X the more attractive Xbox platform for players prioritizing graphical headroom.
What they do not tell us is exactly how GTA 6 runs.
Rockstar has not announced Series X or Series S resolution, frame rate, ray-tracing configuration, Performance Mode or Quality Mode.
Do not turn Xbox’s general 4K or 120 FPS hardware capabilities into GTA 6-specific specifications.
PC is even more uncertain.
A future PC version could potentially provide higher resolutions, more graphics settings, high frame rates, keyboard and mouse, ultrawide displays and modding possibilities.
Rockstar’s previous PC games demonstrate that these kinds of enhancements are possible.
GTA V PC offered 4K and higher resolutions, 60 FPS capability and dozens of configurable settings, while GTA V Enhanced later added technologies including DLSS, FSR and more advanced ray tracing.
None of those features has been announced for GTA 6 PC.
This makes the current recommendation relatively simple.
Players who want guaranteed GTA 6 access on November 19 should choose one of the officially supported consoles. Among Xbox systems, Series X provides the stronger hardware, while Series S offers a more accessible route.
Players who strongly prefer Windows and are comfortable with an unknown wait can continue waiting for Rockstar’s eventual PC announcement.
Until then, comparisons involving PC graphics, FPS or requirements remain theoretical rather than measured GTA 6 results.
